Contact religious authority and the creation of hyper-solidarity: reflections on Israeli politics and Islamic political thought.Ayman K. Agbaria - 2019 - Ethics and Education 14 (2):227-240.
The purpose of this paper is to problematize the place of religious authority in politics and education. Specifically, this essay highlights the role of religious authority in establishing a moral order that values compliance and conformity at the expense of liberty and critique. In doing so, the essay reflects on Israeli politics and Islamic political thought. Pondering on both, the essay explains how the authority conferred through the use of religious language creates a condition of hyper-solidarity. Under conditions of hyper-solidarity, (...)

  2. Rethinking Scientific Specialization.K. Brad Wray - 2005 - Social Studies of Science 35 (1):151-164.
My aim in this paper is to re-examine specialization in science. I argue that we need to acknowledge the role that conceptual changes can play in the creation of new specialties. Whereas earlier sociological accounts focus on social and instrumental changes as the cause of the creation of new specialties, I argue that conceptual changes play an important role in the creation of some scientific specialties. Specifically, I argue that conceptual developments played an important role in the creation of both (...)

    Does Aristotle's polis exist 'by nature'?K. Cherry & E. A. Goerner - 2006 - History of Political Thought 27 (4):563-585.
Aristotle claims man is a political animal and that the polis exists by nature. Taking literally his analogy between the legislator and the craftsman, Aristotle's critics contend that he 'blunders' because the polis is artificial, devised by a legislator/founder and imposed on a people. We defend Aristotle's claims by showing, first, how Aristotle's claim that man is by nature an animal possessing logos -- speech/reason -- grounds his account of the natural development of the polis out of the earliest partnerships (...)

    Does science have a moving target?K. Brad Wray - 2005 - American Philosophical Quarterly 42 (1):47-58.
Kuhn argues that science does not aim at the truth. Alexander Bird raises concerns form Kuhn's view. I defend Kuhn's claim and argue that insofar as science has a goal it is a moving target.

Pour définir ce qu'est l'analogie chez saint Thomas d'Aquin, l'A. se plonge dans le commentaire que le Docteur Angélique a rédigé sur les Sentences de Pierre Lombard : Sent. 1b.1 d.19 q.5 a.2 . Cette définition a des implications pour le thomisme postérieur : l'A. prend l'exemple de Cajetan pour le montrer.
